Praxis, Pedagogy, People: Writing Studies
in the DC Metropolitan Area
Jointly organized by George Washington University and George Mason University, the first DC area conference brings together faculty with shared interests in writing studies, pedagogy, and rhetoric. Its aim is to showcase the work of area faculty and to create local connections among faculty with similar research and teaching interests. The conference will be held at the Mount Vernon campus of GWU and will take place on Friday, January 9, 2009.
This year’s conference features over 30 presentations on a wide range of writing issues. Our speakers hail from George Washington University, George Mason Unviersity, University of Maryland, Catholic University of America, Georgetown University, Montgomery College, Gallaudet University, American University, James Madison University, and Marymount University. We have also received registrations from the U.S. Naval Academy, Howard University, Trinity College, Northern Virginia Community College, and Harford Community College. We’re excited to have so many institutions represented, but hope that even more will be added next year. In addition to the presentations, we hope that the conference will serve as a nexus for people to meet and exchange ideas.
The conference coordinators gratefully acknowledge the sponsorship and support of the George Washington University Writing Program, the George Washington University Office of Academic Affairs, Mt Vernon Campus, and the Professional Writing and Rhetoric program at George Mason University. Pearson Education and Bedford/St. Martin’s presses have also provided generous contributions.
We also wish to thank our volunteer coordinator, Danika Myers and all of our volunteers for their enthusiam and hard work, as well as our GWU host moderators: Phillip Troutman, Eric Drown, Robin Marcus, Christy Zink, Phyllis Ryder, Abby Wilkerson, Steve Salcheck.
We hope you find the conference enjoyable and enriching —
Rachel Riedner and Douglas Eyman, Conference Co-Chairs.
